He became Guru at five. He healed thousands. He gave his life for the poor at the age of eight. In two and a half years, he left a legacy that endures to this day.

Among the ten Sikh Gurus, Guru Har Krishan holds a place unlike any other. The youngest to receive the divine light of Guru Nanak — the jot passed to him by his father, the seventh Guru Har Rai — he was a child whose spiritual radiance drew Sikhs from across the land and humbled the most powerful emperor of his age.

Aurangzeb, who had broken countless saints and scholars to his will, summoned Guru Har Krishan to Delhi. The young Guru agreed to travel — but made one solemn vow: he would not look upon the emperor's face. He would see only his devotees. Even as Aurangzeb schemed and tested him, even as the emperor arrived unannounced hoping to catch a glimpse, Guru Har Krishan remained unmoved. A child of five had made his boundary clear, and no emperor could cross it.

At Panjokhara, a single glance from the Guru filled a simple, unlettered man with the complete knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita — enough to humble a learned Brahmin scholar in open discourse. In Delhi, he walked the streets of the sick and dying as smallpox ravaged the city, healing thousands through his grace and his touch. And then — in an act of selfless sacrifice that Sikhs have never forgotten — he took the suffering of the people upon himself, and left this world at the age of eight.

Before departing, he left one final gift: a declaration that would lead his Sikhs to their next Guru, waiting in the village of Bakala.

Twenty-five years later, Guru Gobind Singh — the tenth Sikh Guru — wrote these words in his honour:

"Remembering and meditating upon Sri Guru Har Krishan, beholding him, all pains vanish."

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib stands today in the heart of Delhi, at the very spot where the child Guru served the sick and gave his life. Its sacred amrit sarovar continues to heal all who visit — a living testament to a life that lasted eight years and changed the world.

What's inside:

  • The Succession: How Guru Har Krishan came to receive the Guruship — and why his father Guru Har Rai chose the younger son over the elder Ram Rai
  • The Defiance: The young Guru's extraordinary stand against Aurangzeb — refusing to see the emperor's face despite immense pressure
  • The Miracles: From filling an unlettered man with divine knowledge to healing thousands during Delhi's smallpox epidemic
  • The Sacrifice: How the child Guru took the suffering of the people upon himself and departed this world at the age of eight
  • The Legacy: Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh's tribute, and a sacred tank that heals to this day
  • The Experience: Extensively researched and told with deep reverence — enjoyable for readers aged 7 to adult
