Guru Nanak — The First Sikh Guru, Volume 4 English Graphic Novel | Sikh Comics Series
From the peaks of Tibet to the holy city of Mecca — no boundary of faith, geography, or tradition could contain him.
He slept with his feet pointing toward the Kaaba. The Qazi, furious, reached down to move them — and the Kaaba moved with his feet.
Of all the sakhis in Guru Nanak's extraordinary life, few are as celebrated — or as quietly devastating — as the moment at Mecca. A Muslim Qazi, outraged that a stranger would sleep with his feet pointing toward the holiest site in Islam, bent down to move them. As he did, the Kaaba itself turned to follow the direction of Guru Nanak's feet. God, it seemed, was not confined to a single direction.
Volume 4 is the most geographically sweeping in the series — a journey that takes Guru Nanak from the foothills of the Shivaliks into the high Himalayas, across Tibet, Nepal, and Ladakh, through Kashmir and back to Punjab, and then onward by ship to Arabia, Mecca, Medina, Baghdad, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan before finally turning toward Kartarpur.
It begins near Sangrur, where Guru Nanak saved Bhai Mardana from the grip of Kaljug and composed the shabad “Moti taa mandar oosray” — words that appear in Sri Guru Granth Sahib immediately after Japji Sahib. It passes through the Shivalik foothills, where Guru Nanak visited Pir Budhan Shah and made him a promise he would keep in his sixth reincarnation. It climbs to Mt. Kailash in Tibet, where Guru Nanak met the 84 siddhas — ascetics who had withdrawn from the world into their caves — and urged them to return to the people and guide them. They tested him. They failed.
At Gurudongmar Lake in present-day Sikkim, Guru Nanak held congregation for weeks and melted part of the frozen lake to bring fresh water to the local people. At Chungthang, he saved the community from a demon and blessed the land so that rice and bananas could grow there for the first time. In Ladakh, another demon found its path to salvation.
And then came the loss that awaited his return — Bebe Nanaki, his beloved sister, had passed. Bhai Jairam followed her days later. Grief did not stop the mission. After a few days with his wife and sons, Guru Nanak set out on his fourth and final udasi.
By ship from the port of Mani to Al-Aswadh. Then to Mecca. Then Medina. Then Baghdad, where he held discourses with Pir Bahlol that drew thousands. Then Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan — before turning, finally, toward Kartarpur.
Through vibrant illustrations and powerful storytelling, Volume 4 brings this unmatched sweep of geography, miracle, and teaching to vivid life — following Guru Nanak to the very edges of the known world and beyond.
