From the shores of Sri Lanka to the banks of the Ravi — the journey continues.

Turned away from the temple doors. He walked to the sea instead — and composed one of the most beautiful prayers in the history of human faith.

When the priests of Jagannath Puri refused Guru Nanak entry into the temple, he did not argue or force his way in. He walked to Swargadwar, the ocean shore, and held his congregation there. As the priests performed their evening aarti inside the temple — lamps lit, incense burning, bells ringing — Guru Nanak looked up at the sky and composed his own:

Gagan mein thaal rav chand deepak baney... The sky is Your plate, the sun and moon Your lamps...

The priests, realising what they had refused entry to, came and invited him in.

This is the world of Volume 3 — a world where Guru Nanak's every step became a lesson, every encounter a transformation, every refusal an opportunity for grace.

This volume covers the final episodes of the first udasi and the complete second udasi — a journey that took Guru Nanak from Jagannath Puri back through Punjab, south through the Deccan to the tip of India, and across the waters to Sri Lanka, where a Raja had spent years longing to meet him.

At Dipalpur, a leper was made whole. At Lahore, Duni Chand learned the transient nature of wealth through a single needle. At Sialkot, Guru Nanak stayed the hand of a Pir who would have destroyed an entire town. At Bidar, he pushed a rock with his foot and a fresh water stream burst forth — the place now known as Nanak Jheera, which draws pilgrims to this day. In Multan, the pirs and fakirs who feared his arrival were won over entirely by his humility and his deep knowledge of Islam.

And in Sri Lanka, Raja Shivnabh — who had longed to meet Guru Nanak for years — finally received the Guru he had been waiting for.

The volume closes with one of the most significant moments in Sikh history: Guru Nanak establishing the town of Kartarpur on the banks of the River Ravi — the first Sikh settlement, and the place where the Guru would spend his final years.

Through vibrant illustrations and powerful storytelling, Volume 3 brings this extraordinary sweep of geography, miracle, and teaching to vivid life — one sakhi at a time.

What's inside:

  • The Aarti: Turned away from the temple at Jagannath Puri, Guru Nanak composes one of Sikhi's most beloved prayers on the open shore
  • The Homecoming: Guru Nanak returns to Talwandi — and blesses the ageing Rai Bullar, who breathes his last with his head in the Guru's lap
  • The Leper: At Dipalpur, Guru Nanak emancipates and heals a leper — a moment of grace that stops pilgrims in their tracks
  • The Needle: Duni Chand of Lahore learns through a single needle what no amount of wealth could teach him about death
  • Nanak Jheera: A foot pressed to stone — and a fresh water stream flows at Bidar, a site of pilgrimage to this day
  • The Raja of Sri Lanka: Shivnabh had longed for Guru Nanak for years — and the Guru, searcher of hearts, knew it before he arrived
  • The Dakhni Oankar: At Khandwa, Guru Nanak composes a profound baani on the oneness of God — telling pilgrims that even Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva serve the Almighty
  • Kartarpur: Guru Nanak founds the first Sikh settlement on the banks of the River Ravi — a moment that changes the course of history
  • The Teaching: Almost every page reveals a new facet of Guru Nanak's wisdom — drawn directly from Gurbani
